ITALIAN DESIGN DAY IN MANAMA

To celebrate the Italian Design Day 2019 (March 20), the Embassy of Italy in Manama has realized – in collaboration with the Museum of the Italian Brand – the exhibition “Italian Brands”. The exhibition illustrates the evolution of the graphics and style of 20 of the most well-known Italian brands and is set up in the central “square” of the mall “The Avenues”, a very popular commercial center. With the occasion, Italian design products (cars, motorcycles, furniture items) were also exhibited. The exhibition was inaugurated by Undersecretary Hon. Picchi on March 20, in the presence of a large audience.

The Italian Design Day then continued with a lecture by Architect Andrea Desimone, “Ambassador of Design” identified together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the theme “Human-oriented design for cities”, which took place at the auditorium of the National Theater of Manama. The event, organized in collaboration with the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, focused on the issues of urban and building sustainability and on the use of new materials and construction techniques and saw the participation of over 150 representatives from academia and professionals, including the Undersecretary for Public Works and Planning.

The Hon. Undersecretary then visited the first Italian language course ever launched in an educational institution in Bahrain, at the Royal University for Women in Riffa. In just a few days, 40 female students have already chosen to learn Italian, making it the most popular optional subject in the Faculty of Liberal Arts. Given the success of the initiative, the opening of Italian courses to students from other universities is now being studied, so as to give further impetus to the teaching of Italian in Bahrain.
