Italy and Bahrain

The political and economic reforms that gave rise to the current constitutional monarchic system were the driving force for strengthening cooperation between Italy and Bahrain.

In 2002 the Embassy of Italy was opened, which initiated more intense relations with the authorities in Manama, promoting more frequent bilateral political meetings with various forms of greater collaboration in multilateral fora. On an economic level, relationships are growing on both the commercial and investment sides, although there is still unexplored potential.

The main objective of Italy’s action in Bahrain is the consolidation of bilateral relations, which already feature a constructive dialogue on international and regional political issues. With this in mind, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on enhanced consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries was concluded on 13 June 2008.

On 17 November 2021, a memorandum of understanding was also signed establishing a Bilateral Joint Commission, which met for the first time at a high level in Rome on 9 June 2023.
