Andrea CATALANO

Born in Washington D.C. on March 2 1972.

Law Degree from “La Sapienza” University in Rome, 1997.

12 month mandatory military service with Arma dei Carabineri 1997-1998

Joins the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2000 serving at MFA headquarters in Rome until 2004.

Political Officer at the Embassy of Italy in Cairo (Egypt) from 2004 to 2008.

Head of the Economic Section at the Embassy of Italy in Tripoli (Libya) from 2008 to 2011. Participates in the coordination of the evacuation of hundreds of Italian and third country nationals from Libya until the suspension of the activities of the Embassy on March 18 2011. Leads the mission to reopen Embassy Tripoli on September 1st 2011.

Deputy Head of the Office for Maghreb at the Department for Political Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs 2011-2014, in charge of the Libyan file. Acting Head of the Office for Maghreb at the Department for Political Affairs Feb.-Jul. 2014.

Senior Counselor at the Embassy of Italy in Washington D.C., from July 30 2014 to August 31 2018 in different capacities (Foreign Affairs and Security, namely Libya and MENA, Press and Information and Congressional Affairs).

From September 2018 to July 2021 he is the Head of the Office for Maghreb at the Department for Political Affairs at MFA headquarters.

From September 3 2021, he is the Head of the Political Section of the Embassy of Italy in Washington D.C.

From March 2024, Ambassador of Italy to Bahrain.
