Check the new Entry\/Exit System (EES)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>EES is an automated IT system for non-EU nationals travelling for a short stay, each time they cross the external borders of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/travel-europe.europa.eu\/ees\/what-is-the-ees##\" data-entity-type=\"external\">29 European countries<\/a>\u00a0using the system. The system will register the person&#8217;s name, travel document data, biometric data (fingerprints and captured facial images) and the date and place of entry and exit, in full respect of fundamental rights and data protection.<\/p>\n<p>It will also record refusals of entry. From 12 October 2025 onwards, <a href=\"https:\/\/travel-europe.europa.eu\/en\/ees\/what-is-the-ees\">29 European countries<\/a><button class=\"wt-unselected wt-laco wt-laco--button wt-offprint\" title=\"Search for available translations\" type=\"button\" aria-controls=\"laco-modal\"><\/button>\u00a0will introduce the EES gradually or in full at their external borders over a period of six\u00a0months.\u00a0Border authorities will\u00a0gradually register the data of non-EU nationals subject to the EES.<\/p>\n<p>As of 10 April 2026,\u00a0EES will replace the current system of manual stamping of passports, which does not allow an automatic detection of over-stayers (travellers who have exceeded the maximum duration of their authorised stay).<\/p>\n<p>EES will contribute to prevent irregular migration and help protect the security of everyone living in or travelling to Europe. The new system will also help non-EU nationals to travel more easily while also identifying more efficiently over-stayers as well as cases of document and identity fraud.
