While the text of a Memorandum of Understanding for political consultations has already been signed, an exchange of official visits by representatives of both Governments has started in order to develop cooperation in all issues of common interest.

In October 2017, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism of Bahrain, HE Zayed Al Zayani paid a visit to Italy, accompanied by the CE of the Economic Development Board, Khaled Al Rumaihi, and by a delegation of entrepreneurs. On 12 October, the Minister attended the first Italian-Arab Business Forum in Milan, where he met with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Angelino Alfano. On 13 October, he led the Bahrein Country Presentation, organized in Rome by Confindustria Assafrica & Mediterraneo, at the presence of the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Sen. Benedetto Della Vedova and of numerous Italian companies.

In July 2018, the Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Guglielmo Picchi, paid a visit to Manama to lead the Italian delegation to the World Heritage Committee, which led, among other things, to the inclusion of the city of Ivrea in the list of UNESCO heritage sites. On this occasion, Hon. Picchi had a friendly meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, HE Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, focused on the prospects for deepening bilateral relations, also in view of the opening of the Embassy of Bahrain in Italy, and on main regional issues.

The Minister of Defense, Dr. Elisabetta Trenta, visited Bahrain from 26 to 28 October 2018 to take part to the Manama Dialogue on regional security, an annual event on the stability of the Middle East region. On that occasion, the Minister met the Crown Prince of Bahrain and First Deputy Prime Minister, HRH Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and the Commander in Chief of the Bahraini Armed Forces, HE Khalifa bin Ahmad Al Khalifa, with whom she discussed the strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of defense and security. The Minister also made a visit to the Frederick "Federico Martinengo" of the Italian Navy, which stopped at Manama in the same period.

Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs Hon. Guglielmo Picchi paid a visit to Manama from 20 to 22 March 2019 to attend the events organized for the Italian Design Day and to inaugurate the Italian language course at the Royal University for Women. Hon. Picchi also had cordial meetings with the Crown Prince and First Deputy Prime Minister, HRH Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and with the Foreign Minister, HE Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa.
