The celebrations of the 73rd Anniversary of the Italian Republic were held on 10 June 2019 at the Gulf Hotel Convention Centre in Manama, presided over by the Ambassador of Italy S.E. Domenico Bellato in the presence of the Minister of Oil, H.E. Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa al Khalifa, the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, H.E. Shaikha Rana Al Khalifa, and the Governor of Manama, H.E. Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa.
Numerous representatives of the Bahraini institutional, economic, cultural and social world were also present, as well as members of the diplomatic corps and a large representation of the Italian community living in Bahrain. The celebration took place in the main hall of the Gulf Hotel, set up for the occasion with symbols of Made in Italy excellence: Ferrari, Maserati and Alfa Romeo cars, Ducati and Piaggio motorcycles and scooters. Much appreciated as well the photographic exhibition on Matera European Capital of Culture 2019, promoted by the ENI Enrico Mattei Foundation in the framework of the “From Manama to Matera” initiative. Specialties of Italian cuisine, prepared by Chef Carlo Cirone, highlighted the uniqueness of our culinary traditions, while the Bahraini tenor Faisal Al Ansari cheered those present with a performance in Italian.
During the celebration, Ambassador Bellato also bestowed the decoration of Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy to Mrs. Giuseppina Ubezio (known as Giuse Maggi) and to Mrs. Loredana Mantello, in recognition of their precious and brilliant work to spread the Italian art and culture in Bahrain.
